| A fieldworker goes out into the field carrying a hand-held web-enabled mobile device, such as a PDA. After finding some respondent who has agreed to be interviewed, the fieldworker accesses the web through his or her device, logs in to the system and then selects the appropriate campaign. |
| The first question for the respondent will then become visible on the PDA’s screen, alongside some instructions for the interviewer (if provided). The respondent’s answers are then entered into the PDA by the interviewer. At this point, the system will display the next question, according to the complex path-flow which had previously been specified during the design stage |

Traditionally, fieldworkers have used paper-based surveys when conducting their interviews. Marketing Mayhem’s PDA-based fieldworker system offers a number of advantages over this traditional approach:
- The software automatically guides the interviewer through the whole interview process, allowing him or her to build up a much stronger rapport with the respondent
- The interviewer is able to read instructions or comments left by the survey designer, to aid in the interview process.
- The results are captured in real-time and are processed in the background by the system. This has two main advantages:
